The Skinny: Resveratrol & Anti-Aging

Resveratrol promotes cardiovascular health through its antioxidant action and its ability to promote healthy platelet function and maintain healthy arachidonic acid metabolism. What does this mean? Resveratrol has been linked to prolonging life because of its anti-aging benefits.

Resveratrol & Red Wine
Though it is found in the skin of red grapes and in other fruits and commonly associated with the health benefits of red wine because of its powerful antioxidant and cardioprotectant properties, red wine actually contains only a small amount of resveratrol—on the order of 0.1-14.3 mg/l according to the study Biotransformationof Piceid in Polygonum Cuspidatum to Resveratrol by Aspergillus Oryzae. Though we would never recommend against enjoying a glass of red wine, you’ll need to obtain resveratrol in a supplement, such as that found in our WellnessPack.

Japanese Knotweed
The resveratrol found in PruTectRx supplement bundle, WellnessPack, is derived from one of the richest known sources: polygonum cuspidatum otherwise known as Japanese knotweed or "itadori" in Japanese, which is an herb utilized for centuries. Also native to China and Korea, Japanese knotweed is a herbaceous perennial plant and considered an invasive species in the United States. Resveratrol is extractred from Japanese knotweed because of its high concentration and wide availability, which helps keep costs down.

Here's what David Sinclair, Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Co-Director of the Paul F. Glenn Laboratories for the Biological Mechanisms of Aging at Harvard Medical School, has to say about resveratrol at TEDMED: http://youtu.be/xCGwhXOP8_Y
