Enteric coating is a resin derived from the skin of the Indian shellac beetle. While this may sound less-than-appetizing, this coating is tasteless, natural, chemical-free, and, more importantly, helps prevent stomach acid prematurely dissolving and releasing each capsule's contents. Enteric-coated capsules are instead absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract where they have the most benefit, 60 minutes after being ingested.
