Turmeric is widely used as a spice in South Asia and is the predominant ingredient in curry and is part of the ginger family. One of its most noticeable traits is its bright yellow color which was the original attraction to the spice: it was used as a dye thousands of years ago before it was discovered to have certain Ayurvedic (ancient Indian) medicinal properties.
What are the Benefits?
The primary component of turmeric is a natural phenol called curcumin (not to be confused with the familiar sounding spice cumin). Curcumin is actually the culprit for the distinctive yellow coloring, and it is also responsible for most of the health benefits of turmeric. Most notably, curcumin has been shown to be a potent herbal remedy as it possesses many antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Why is Turmeric (and Curcumin) Important?
After going through the trauma of surgery, the body needs time to recover from the stress of being cut open. By supplementing your intake of turmeric, you help your body recover from the trauma. After surgery, free radicals are even more abundant as the body is using its primary defenses to focus on healing from surgery. Increased anti-oxidants can come to the rescue to ensure that your body is fully protected from intruders that can cause further cell damage. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric help support recovery of inflamed post-surgical tissue.
Turmeric also supports a healthy digestive system, which after surgery is especially important given the fact that pain medications often cause digestive issues. As an added bonus, when incorporated into a balanced diet, turmeric also has been shown to help maintain a healthy weight.
What You Can Do
Turmeric is a key ingredient in NeuroPruTect, which is part of SurgiPack, a new bundle from PruTectRx that accelerates surgery recovery. Both NeuroPruTect and SurgiPack are available for purchase online at www.prutectrx.com.

Head and Heart: Part Two of a Two-part Series about the Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 Fatty Acids are comprised primarily of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and each plays a significant role in supporting your body’s two most important organs: your brain and your heart. Part one in this series focused on DHA and its impact on your brain. Part two emphasizes the benefits of EPA on your heart.
A Healthy Heart
As obesity rates continue to rise, so too will the rates of heart disease. A key problem is that we are ingesting too much fat. Well, let me correct that. We are ingesting too much of the wrong fat, but not enough of the right fat. When we have an imbalance of the fat we ingest our hearts are more at risk. Bad fats thicken blood and harden arteries. Good fats, on the other hand, have been shown to help support healthy heart function.
Omega-3
Omega-3 essential fatty acids comprise a good portion of these good fats. High quantities of Omega-3 can be found in cold-water fish such as salmon and sardines, and it is also available as a supplement in fish oil. A key component of Omega-3 is EPA. When EPA enters the body it helps to support healthy heart function. One of its major benefits is that it helps to actually reduce the viscosity of blood, improving its flow through the circulatory system. The structure of red blood cells plays a major role in how easily blood flows throughout the circulatory system. Anything from diet pollutants can have a negative impact on blood health, but an increased intake of EPA helps to fortify red blood cell membranes, resulting in lower blood viscosity (systolic) and blood stickiness (diastolic).
Available Now
Fish oil is loaded with EPA, but fish oil typically comes with a not surprisingly fishy taste. OmegaSmoothiePrutect, however, is a new drinkable fish oil that is now available as a smoothie that comes in two delicious flavors – key lime and lemon meringue. OmegaSmoothiePrutect is part of the PruTect family of products that combined with ProteinPruTect helps your body more quickly recover from surgery.

Head and Heart: Part One of a Two-part Series about the Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 Fatty Acids are comprised primarily of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and each plays a significant role in supporting your body's two most important organs: your brain and your heart. Part one in this series focuses on DHA and its impact on your brain. Part two will emphasize the benefits of EPA on your heart.
This Is Your Brain
Your brain is the thought center of your body. As you age, however, its ability to learn and retain information decreases for a number of reasons. Brain cells get worn down over time due to oxidized stress. Oxidized stress is caused by exposure to free radicals that are brought into the body through pollution and certain things that we eat. DHA actually helps to counteract the negative effects that are caused by oxidized stress.
DHA makes up 97% of the essential Omega-3 Fatty Acids in the brain. Its purpose is to provide fluidity in the brain and assist with neurotransmission. During the aging process, however, the brain essentially uses up DHA and it is necessary to replenish these reserves. Because our bodies don't actually produce DHA, it is necessary to consume this essential fatty acid either in the foods we eat or in supplemental form.
This Is Your Brain on DHA
By increasing your intake of DHA you take steps to support your brain function and mental capacities. It is very important that you replenish the DHA that is lost naturally through the aging process. When your diet includes enough DHA, your brain is able to retain its necessary fatty composition in order to keep firing on all cylinders.
In addition, DHA is also a key component of the eye's retina. Similar to the brain, the eye requires DHA to improve fluidity and to aid in the transmission of light. DHA deficiency is related to both structural and functional eye issues, but by increasing supply of DHA you can help support the eye's overall health and functionality.
Any Questions?
The good news is that you can now take steps to ensure your diet has the proper amount of DHA to support lasting brain function. DHA is most available in fish oil, but fish oil typically comes with a not surprisingly fishy taste. There is a way, however, to avoid this fishy taste with the delicious and drinkable liquid, OmegaSmoothiePrutect. OmegaSmoothiePrutect is part of the PruTect family of products that combined with ProteinPruTect helps your body more quickly recover from surgery.

Broccoli Seed Extract: the Ultimate Antioxidant
NeuroPruTect and ProteinPruTect contain 60mg and 30mg, respectively, of SGS broccoli seed extract.
Why is Broccoli So Great?
Because broccoli contains glucosinolate, glucoraphanin and isothiocyanates:
- Glucoraphanin is the glucosinolate found in broccoli and converts to sulforaphane in the body
- Isothiocyanates are the bioactive molecules that trigger antioxidant activity in the body, with the most well-known being sulforaphane
- The science has particularly focused on the compound's ability to selectively boost Phase II enzymes, enhancing the detoxification of cells
- These indirect antioxidants eliminate many types of free radicals, are recycled by the body, and remain active for up to three days
Due to the fragility of broccoli sprouts, SGS broccoli seed extract is made from the seed where glucoraphanin is most concentrated and stable. SGS broccoli seed extract is:
- Produced in North America under the FDA's Current Good Manufacturing Standards (cGMP) for drugs
- A completely natural process, using water extraction
- Patented in the US and international markets
- Specially formulated for tablets
- Kosher
As part of the PruTect Series, NeuroPruTect enhances brain health and is available from PruTectRx.
